Leatherman multi-tool or knife as a gift for someone entering the military?
Many people suggest to buy a Leatherman as a gift for someone in the military. What preferred model? It would be a multi-tool or knife, which is more useful? Should I give them before they join, or send while in training? Thank you. (I have the Leatherman Wave view).
If you go the route multi-tool, make sure it is a Leatherman or Victorinox SwissTool. Tools Gerber, SOG and all the other manufacturers just are not as high in quality or functionality in my experience. Personally I prefer SwissTool all the tools are back in the spring, so do not aggregate and are also made of steel more resistant oxide. Leatherman is also an excellent choice if you have a much better design of the blades and a screwdriver (although only get the best design of the more expensive models, the "core" Leatherman is very outdated, low quality design). If you are the knife of the route, depends on how you want to spend what I recommend, but without knowing their price range, I'll just say Spyderco military that (small and militias) and those covered RAT RC-3 and RC-4 are fairly well designed with the military in mind. EDIT: I think the wave is a excellent choice.
